What is the difference between attribution and analytics?
Analytics tells you what happened on your site; attribution assigns credit for a sale across the marketing touchpoints that preceded it. You need the first to do the second.
Analytics is the record of behavior: sessions, pageviews, events, conversions. Attribution is the allocation question: of the ad click, email, social visit, and direct return that preceded this order, which gets the credit?
Attribution models range from last-click (simple, biased) through data-driven multi-touch (richer, opaque) to incrementality testing (slowest, closest to truth). All of them sit on top of analytics data - so when tracking loses signal to blockers and cookie caps, every model downstream inherits the loss.
